Delhi: Apple prices in the national capital, Delhi, have risen by approximately 30% over the past few days. According to traders, the primary reason for this surge is that apple arrivals from Himachal Pradesh have dropped to nearly half of normal levels. Continuous rain, landslides, and disruptions to transport networks have prevented adequate quantities of apples from reaching the wholesale markets (mandis), driving up prices in the retail market.
Fruit traders state that prices may remain under pressure in the coming days due to reduced supply and sustained demand. However, relief is expected once weather conditions normalize and the arrival of the new harvest increases.
Apples Become Up to 30% Costlier
A significant rise in apple prices has been recorded in Delhi’s major fruit markets compared to last week. The sharpest price hike has been observed in high-quality apples, though medium-quality apples are also selling at higher rates than before.
Retailers note that the price hike in the wholesale market has directly impacted consumers.
Supply from Himachal Halved
According to traders, traffic on several roads in Himachal Pradesh has been disrupted by continuous rain and landslides, making it difficult to transport apples from orchards to the markets.
Current apple arrivals in Delhi are roughly half of the usual volume for this time of year. The reduced supply has widened the gap between market demand and availability.
Rain Exacerbates Problems
Persistent rain has affected not only transportation but also the harvesting and packing of the fruit. Growers in many areas are facing difficulties in harvesting their crops.

Experts suggest that if the weather improves and roads become fully operational, apple arrivals from Himachal could increase within the next one to two weeks. Additionally, the arrival of fresh consignments from Kashmir and other producing regions is expected to improve market supply, likely leading to some easing of prices.
However, if the rainy weather and landslide conditions persist, consumers may have to continue grappling with high apple prices for some time.
