Villagers in Kalahandi face increased hardship due to dilapidated roads.

Thuamul Rampur: In Odisha’s Kalahandi district, a pregnant woman had to be carried for nearly two kilometers on a makeshift stretcher because an ambulance could not reach her village due to the poor condition of the road. This incident highlights the lack of basic amenities in remote areas.
The incident took place in Ghutiguda village within the Thuamul Rampur block, where Ranjita Majhi went into labor late Friday night. Her family called for an ambulance due to severe abdominal pain, but the vehicle could not navigate the muddy and dilapidated road leading to the village. After waiting for several hours, the ambulance returned without reaching the patient, leaving the family with no choice but to transport her along the muddy path on a makeshift stretcher.
The family carried her for about two kilometers until they reached the nearest motorable road. From there, she was taken by auto-rickshaw to the Thuamul Rampur Community Health Centre for treatment.
