Leaky roof poses problems for patients at Narnaul hospital
While rain brings relief from the scorching heat, it also exposes the poor quality of healthcare and other facilities, causing numerous problems for residents.
For example, the roof of the Civil Hospital in Narnaul has started leaking during rain, causing significant inconvenience to patients.
Although some temporary measures have been taken to address the situation, rainwater entering the hospital premises is causing difficulties for both patients and staff.
The leaking roof of the old OPD building in the hospital makes the floor slippery, often leading to patients slipping and falling. “Elderly citizens, in particular, are at greater risk of slipping and falling on wet floors. They are already vulnerable, and even a minor slip can cause fractures and other complications that require prolonged treatment. The hospital administration should take good care of the hospital premises and ensure that the building is safe for patients,” said Anil Rao, a resident who brought his mother to the hospital for treatment.
Savita, who had come to get her husband treated, regretted having to get her prescription card reissued because the first one got wet in the rain. Mukesh Rajput, who had come with his friend for treatment, said, “The rich go to high-end hospitals with quality facilities. On the other hand, the underprivileged have no choice but to go to government hospitals. The concerned authorities should pay some attention to our plight.” He said that waiting for his turn to consult a doctor and walking through corridors with water dripping from the ceiling was inconvenient and irritating.
Requesting anonymity, some hospital staff members said they faced difficulties performing their duties due to rainwater entering the hospital premises. Sources said the roof leak indicates a serious lapse, as the hospital had undergone repair and maintenance work only a few months ago. When asked for comment on the matter, Narnaul Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ashok Kumar said that the Public Works Department (PWD) is still repairing the old OPD building.
“Some water was also leaking from the ventilator in the OPD lobby, which needs to be repaired by the PWD,” he said. He added that the tender process for roof tile work is also underway and will be completed soon.
