Manipur serial grenade attacks: Three PREPAK cadres arrested

Imphal: Manipur Police have arrested three alleged cadres of the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak ​​(PREPAK) in connection with grenade attacks targeting homes in Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
The arrests were made on June 29 during an intelligence operation in Sawombung under the Lamlai police station. The accused have been identified as Sorokhaibam Rohit Meitei alias Salai (24), Salam Yaifaba Meitei alias Khajing (20), and a minor, all residents of Sawombung.
The operation was carried out based on an FIR registered at the Porompat police station in connection with the serial attacks.
According to police, investigations revealed that the accused received a consignment of six hand grenades from an underground handler. Five of these grenades were allegedly thrown at homes in Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
Among the properties targeted was the home of Khurailatpam Bhavanand Sharma in the Brahmapur area of ​​Imphal East, which was attacked twice on the nights of June 10-11 and June 25-26. These incidents caused extensive damage to the property and prompted protests from local residents.

Following the arrests, police recovered a sixth unexploded hand grenade and two scooters allegedly used by the accused during the attacks.

Two adult accused have been remanded to police custody, while the minor has been produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.
Police said further investigations are underway to identify and locate other members of the alleged network involved in the attacks.
