Police Release Wrong Accused In Nayagarh Ajit Sahu Murder Case

Nayagarh: In an embarrassing development, Nayagarh police have released a man they had mistakenly presented as an accused in the sensational murder of Ajit Sahu at Odgaon.

The person, identified as Sridhar Sahu of Kumund Makarpada village, was brought before the media during a press conference addressed by Central Range IG Satyajit Nayak. However, he was later released after police found no evidence linking him to the crime.

Speaking to the media, Nayagarh Superintendent of Police S. Susree clarified: “Sridhar Sahu’s name was mentioned in the FIR on the basis of the complaint filed by the deceased Ajit’s father. We had taken him to the police station for inquiry. During investigation, we found no evidence against him in the murder case. He was not arrested or forwarded to court. As soon as his non-involvement was confirmed, he was released.”

Sridhar Sahu had also loudly proclaimed his innocence during the press conference itself. Earlier, the police had issued a press release claiming that four persons were arrested in the Ajit Sahu murder case within 12 hours of the incident.

The Central IG had also highlighted this quick breakthrough during the press interaction. Meanwhile, the police have made some progress in the case. The sword allegedly used in the murder has been recovered from the Bhapur area of Dhenkanal district. The Honda Amaze car used in the crime has also been seized. Police sources said three more accused are still absconding and teams have been formed to track them down
