New Zealand fought till the last over: England’s thrilling win

Sports Sports: England defeated New Zealand by 4 wickets in a Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup on Friday.

With this win, England topped Group 2. Second-placed New Zealand’s semi-final chances will depend on the outcome of the Sri Lanka-Pakistan match on Saturday. If Pakistan loses, New Zealand will advance to the semi-finals.

Earlier in the match, New Zealand scored 159 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs, while England won by scoring 161 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 19.3 overs.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first. Glenn Phillips top-scored for the team with 39 runs, including 4 fours and 1 six, while Tim Seifert was dismissed for 35 runs, including 3 fours and 2 sixes.

Finn Allen scored 29 runs with the help of 3 sixes, Rachin Ravindra scored 11 runs with the help of 1 four, Mark Chapman scored 15 runs with the help of 2 fours, and Daryl Mitchell scored 3 runs.

Cole McKenzie returned to the pavilion after scoring 14 runs with the help of 2 fours, while at the end of the over, captain Mitchell Santner scored 9 runs with the help of 1 six, and Matthew Henry remained unbeaten on 1 run.

Among the England bowlers, Rehan Ahmed, Will Jacks, and Adil Rashid took 2 wickets each, while Liam Dawson took 1 wicket.

Chasing a target of 160 runs, England suffered a setback when Phil Salt was dismissed for 2 and Jos Buttler for 0. The middle-order batsmen added runs to strengthen the score. Captain Harry Brook scored 26 runs with the help of 3 fours and 1 six, Jacob Bethell scored 21 runs with the help of 4 fours, Tom Banton scored 33 runs with the help of 3 fours and 1 six, and Sam Curran scored 24 runs with the help of 2 fours and 1 six.

In the end, Will Jacks remained unbeaten on 32 runs in 18 balls with the help of 4 fours and 1 six and led the team to victory. Rehan Ahmed scored 19 runs with the help of 1 four and 2 sixes.

For New Zealand, Rachin Ravindra took 3 wickets, while Matthew Henry, Lockie Ferguson and Glenn Phillips took 1 wicket each.
