Chennai: Female lawyer’s body found in hotel bathtub, friend detained for questioning

Chennai: A 32-year-old female lawyer, who checked into a star hotel in Teynampet on Monday, was found dead in her room’s bathtub. Police have registered a case of suspicious death and detained her male friend, who was in the room with her, for questioning. The deceased has been identified as Roja (32), a resident of Tiruvannamalai and practicing lawyer in Chennai. According to police, Roja and her friend, Yashwant Kumar, also a lawyer, checked into the hotel on February 15th.
Initial investigations revealed that they had consumed alcohol that night, and the man left the room the next morning. Later that day, he called the woman, but she didn’t respond. He then went to the hotel and knocked on the door. When he received no response, he alerted the hotel staff, who then informed the police and authorities. Upon entering the room, the woman was found unconscious in the bathtub. She was taken to the hospital, where she was declared dead. Later, his body was sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for a post-mortem. Yashwanth Kumar was detained for questioning. Teynampet police said the cause of death will be known only after the autopsy report.
