The Tamil Nadu government is taking several precautionary measures to deal with disaster situations.

As part of this, an Urban Disaster Management Authority was created for the Greater Chennai Corporation to effectively deal with the threat of natural disasters.

Furthermore, a Disaster Management Institute with state-of-the-art facilities is being built. To reduce the time taken for relief operations and to stockpile rescue and relief materials in advance, three zonal rescue centers are being built in Chennai and Puducherry at a cost of ₹36 crore.
