Moong Dal Sprouts Recipe: If you’re trying to lose weight and looking for a light, nutritious, and filling breakfast, moong dal sprouts are a great choice. Whole moong dal is rich in protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, which help improve metabolism and control hunger for a long time. Fortunately, sprouted moong dal can be easily prepared at home.
How to prepare moong dal sprouts at home?
First, thoroughly clean 1 cup of whole moong dal and soak it in enough water overnight. In the morning, drain all the water from the dal and wash it lightly again. Now, wrap the soaked dal in a clean cotton or muslin cloth.
Keep this cloth in a covered container or in a warm place for 24 to 48 hours. Be sure to not let the dal dry out completely. If the cloth appears dry, you can lightly spray it with water. In about 1-2 days, small sprouts will emerge from the lentils. These are your fresh and healthy sprouts, which you can eat in a variety of ways.

Different Ways to Eat Mung Dal Sprouts

  1. Raw Sprouts as a Salad
    Eating sprouted mung dal without cooking is considered the most nutritious. For this, take a handful of sprouts and mix them with finely chopped vegetables.
    For weight loss, you can add cucumber, radish, tomato, onion, green chilies, coriander leaves, boiled corn, grated beetroot, and small pieces of cheese. These vegetables increase fiber and make the salad colorful and delicious.
    Add a little chaat masala, black salt, and fresh lemon juice and mix well. This healthy sprout salad is perfect for breakfast or a light evening meal.
  2. A Mildly Sweet Mix of Fruit and Sprouts
    If you prefer a mildly sweet taste, you can also mix fruit with sprouts. For this, take a bowl of mung bean sprouts and add small pieces of apple, grapes, and pomegranate seeds.
    Be careful not to add any fruit that is too soft or watery, as it may spoil the taste. Cucumber, a little beetroot, and cheese can also be added. This version usually doesn’t include onion, tomato, or green chilies.
    Finally, add some salt, chaat masala, and lemon juice and toss well. This mixture is great for those who prefer a healthy yet slightly sweet breakfast.
  3. Hot Sprouts with a Mild Tempering
    Those who don’t want to eat raw sprouts can also lightly cook them. For this, heat 1 teaspoon of butter or mustard oil in a pan.
    Add finely chopped onion, green chilies, and tomato and lightly fry. Then add the mung bean sprouts and season with salt to taste. Cover and cook on low heat for about 8-10 minutes, until the sprouts soften slightly but don’t overcook.
    Finally, add chaat masala and lemon juice and mix well. These warm and mildly spiced sprouts are a great option for breakfast or a light dinner.
