SD Singh Jamwal appointed as new DGP of Arunachal Pradesh

Guwahati: The Government of India has appointed senior IPS officer Shiv Darshan Singh Jamwal, also known as SD Singh Jamwal, as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Arunachal Pradesh.
The appointment was made through an official order issued on January 2.
Jamwal is a 1995-batch Indian Police Service officer from the Arunachal Pradesh–Goa–Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre.
He has been transferred to Arunachal Pradesh from Ladakh, where he was serving as the Director General of Police.
He takes over from Anand Mohan, a 1994-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer who was appointed as Arunachal Pradesh’s DGP in June 2023 and assumed office the following month.
Anand Mohan served as DGP for nearly two and a half years before being transferred to Delhi in late December 2025 as part of a larger reshuffle of senior police officers by the central government.
Over his career, SD Singh Jamwal has held several key policing and security roles, including senior postings in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, and has previously served as Additional Director General of Police.
Officials noted that his experience in sensitive and strategically important regions is likely to strengthen law enforcement and security management in Arunachal Pradesh.
Following Jamwal’s appointment, the Arunachal Pradesh Police headquarters in Itanagar will function under new leadership.
While neither the state government nor the new DGP has issued a statement on immediate priorities, officials confirmed that the handover process is underway.
The appointment is part of routine administrative transfers within the AGMUT cadre, under which IPS officers are periodically posted across different states and union territories.
