Kerala: Cardiac arrest and excessive bleeding, hospital clarifies Kavya’s death

Kochi: Don Bosco Hospital in North Paravur stated that the death of a woman after childbirth was not caused by the surgeon’s negligence. Medical Superintendent Dr. PK Kuncheria responded after relatives accused the surgeon of negligence. He stated that the deceased, Karyamol (30), a resident of Pattampalla, had a rare condition.
She suffered from excessive bleeding after delivery, a rare condition. Her uterus was then removed, and she suffered a cardiac arrest in the operating theater. There was no negligence in this incident. The hospital had the blood needed to donate blood in the early stages. Dr. PK Kuncheria said, “When the relatives expressed the need to change the hospital, we agreed.” Kavya’s second delivery took place at Don Bosco Hospital on December 24th. Kavya gave birth to a baby girl at 12:50 pm. The family alleges that officials refused to shift the woman, who was in critical condition, to another hospital. Hospital officials said she suffered a heart attack around 4 p.m. Later, when her condition worsened, hospital officials arranged for an ambulance with a ventilator from a private hospital at 9:30 p.m. The woman, who was in critical condition due to her lower limbs not functioning properly, was declared brain dead. A postmortem was conducted and rites were performed at Ernakulam Medical College. Police have registered a case of unnatural death. Following this, many people shared their experiences on social media, including reports of a medical assistant at the same hospital who had died.
