MP: Be prepared for intense cold and dense fog amid snowfall in hill states

Madhya Pradesh: January is set to be a bitterly cold month across the state, with minimum temperatures expected to drop below freezing.

Prepare for intense cold, dense fog, and a cold wave!

The state experienced a severe chill on New Year’s Eve. Khajuraho and Naugaon in Chhatarpur were among the coldest cities in the state, but enthusiastic people didn’t let this deter their New Year celebrations.

The effects of fog and cold were felt on the first day of the New Year. Fog was observed in several districts, including Chhatarpur, Satna, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Gwalior, Bhind, Morena, Datia, Sidhi, Panna, Mauganj, Sidhi, Singrauli, Umaria, Maihar, and Shahdol, as well as Indore, Bhopal, Shajapur, Sehore, Raisen, Vidisha, Mandla, and Dindori.

Snowfall in the hilly states and the activity of a Western Disturbance have increased the cold in Madhya Pradesh. According to the Meteorological Department, the jet stream (a river-like flow of cold and warm air) reached a speed of 278 kmph on Wednesday. This led to a drop in night temperatures in Madhya Pradesh. The jet stream will continue to blow at a high speed on Thursday as well.

According to weather experts, a major reason for the increased cold in the state is the jet stream. This is a strong current of air that flows at an altitude of about 12.6 km above the ground. This time its speed has reached 285 kmph. It is active in the northern part of the country.
