Sambalpur: Girl dies under mysterious circumstances; family alleges murder.

Sambalpur: A day after the body of a 15-year-old girl was found in a drain in Shantinagar under Ainthapalli police station here, her relatives alleged on Thursday that she was murdered. The deceased girl has been identified as Saishraddha Mishra, granddaughter of Ashok Kumar Mishra and Surekha Mishra of Shantinagar. Sources said her father, Ganga Prasad Mishra, died in an accident a few years ago, while her mother died under mysterious circumstances in 2017. According to the police, she lived with her grandparents and was studying in Class 10. Her death has raised suspicions among residents and relatives, as her mother had also allegedly died by suicide a few years ago.
The news of Saishraddha’s death has sent shockwaves and unrest throughout the city. Her maternal uncle, Asit Kumar Nanda, and his wife, who reside in Angul, arrived in Sambalpur on Thursday morning and alleged that the girl was murdered. They claimed that Saishraddha’s father, Ganga Prasad Mishra, died in an accident several years ago, and her mother’s death in 2017 was also suspicious. A complaint was filed at that time, and the investigation into that case is still ongoing. According to the relatives, Ganga Prasad had transferred all his property to his wife’s name before his death. They alleged that after Ganga Prasad’s death, his wife was harassed and murdered, and an attempt was made to portray it as a case of suicide. Now they suspect a similar pattern in Saishraddha’s death as well. Sambalpur SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo said, “Police have registered a case and initiated preliminary investigations. A forensic team has visited the spot for examination, and officials are reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area.” Police said the exact cause of death will be ascertained after the post-mortem report. A case of unnatural death has been registered, and the investigation is underway.
