iPhone manufacturing in India rises, global share 20% in FY25

New Delhi: Apple India posted record-high domestic sales of $9 billion in FY25, with company filings revealing that one in five iPhones produced globally in FY25 was made/assembled in India.
The company’s manufacturing in India contributed 12 percent to Apple’s global production value.
Analysts noted that Apple’s sales in India represented just over 2 percent of Apple’s $416.1 billion global revenue, but India’s role in iPhone production grew rapidly.
The iPhone maker began local assembly of the iPhone’s high-end Pro and Pro Max models in India for the first time.
The company’s filing revealed that the US generated $178.4 billion in FY25 revenue – about 43 percent of Apple’s global revenue – and a growing share of those iPhones were shipped from India.
This was followed by Europe with a 26.7 percent share and Greater China with a 15.4 percent share. The company’s India revenue has grown nearly eightfold over the past ten years, driven primarily by iPhones, MacBooks, iPads, AirPods, and accessories, while services continue to account for a small single-digit share of total sales.
In FY25, the freight-on-board value of Apple’s India-based production was $22 billion, of which $7.5 billion was exported.
Local manufacturing significantly supports the company’s sales force in India by avoiding the 16 percent customs duty levied on fully imported phones.
In an earnings call with analysts after posting strong quarterly results, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that when it comes to retail, “we’re heading into our busiest time of the year with our best lineup ever. Over the past few months, we’ve opened new stores in emerging markets like India and the UAE, and new locations in the US and China.”
For the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2025, which ended September 27, the company posted quarterly revenue of $102.5 billion, up 8% year-over-year.
