Punjab: Farmers disrupt Mann’s roadshow

Punjab: Farmers disrupted Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s roadshow in Noori village, Tarn Taran, on Tuesday. Police detained approximately 200 farmers, including 50 women, who were raising slogans against the government. They were released in the Khemkaran area, about 70 kilometers from the protest site. Satnam Singh Manochahal, district president of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, condemned the police action, saying the protesters only wanted to meet the Chief Minister and raise their demands. He said the police escorted them away from the protest site in security vehicles. Meanwhile, Mann urged people not to be misled by the propaganda of opposition parties.
Chief Minister’s wife also campaigned
Chief Minister’s wife, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur Mann, also campaigned for ruling AAP candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu. She visited several villages, met with women, and addressed public meetings. In her address, she spoke about Mohalla Clinics, free electricity, and welfare schemes provided by the government. He said that in the next state budget, the government will provide a monthly stipend of Rs 1,000 to women in the state, as promised by the AAP before the 2022 assembly elections. Mann made this announcement on Monday.
Shiromani Akali Dal demands registration of case against Warring
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has filed a complaint with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) against Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring for allegedly making derogatory remarks against former Union Home Minister and Dalit leader Buta Singh. The party has demanded that a case be registered against Warring under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
BJP is the only option: Lalpura
BJP leader and National Minority Commission Chairman Iqbal Singh Lalpura, along with other leaders, campaigned for party candidate Harjeet Singh Sandhu. Lalpura alleged that the AAP government has treated Tarn Taran district step-motherly. He said that there is no alternative but the BJP to bring peace and law and order to the state.
The beginning of AAP’s downfall: Bajwa
Senior Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa campaigned for party candidate Karanbir Singh Burj in Chabbal, Kairowal, and Behala villages. He was accompanied by Captain Sandeep Singh Sandhu, former cabinet minister Balbir Singh, former MLAs Inderbir Singh Bolaria, Harminder Singh Gill, and Sukhwinder Singh Danny. He accused Mann of adopting a dictatorial attitude towards the people. “As a result, people are fed up with the poor performance of the AAP government,” he said. He further stated that the Tarn Taran by-election would be the beginning of AAP’s downfall.
