Himachal: St. Edwards School celebrates a century of light, heritage and education

Himachal Pradesh: St. Edward’s School, Shimla, continued its centenary celebrations with great enthusiasm, commemorating the feast day of its patron, St. Edward, under the theme “A Legacy That Endures.” The day honored the hundred years of faith, service, and excellence that shaped the Edwardian generations. The celebrations began with the hoisting of the school flag and the formal welcome of distinguished guests by NCC cadets—Aniruddha Bishop Sahai, His Lordship Bishop Ignatius L. Mascarenhas, Reverend Father Ambrose, and Reverend Father Angulus. A rhythmic march past by the NCC and school bands created an atmosphere of pride and reverence for this historic occasion. Highlights of the day included the time capsule ceremony, a march past of alumni accompanied by the police band, and the formal transfer of the school flag to the school cabinet—a symbolic gesture of leadership and continuity.
The inauguration of the Memorial Park paid tribute to the school’s rich heritage, while an art exhibition and a celebratory event organized by the Outreach Club showcased the students’ creativity, innovation, and community spirit. A cultural program held in the school auditorium beautifully showcased the school’s centennial journey through dance, music, and inspiring messages of service and hope. Adding to the grandeur of the centennial celebrations, the school hosted a program, “Lumen Sequere – Following the Light,” in its historic hall on Sunday evening. Chief Guest Bishop Ignatius L. Mascarenhas inaugurated the program by planting a sapling and unveiling a statue of Blessed Edmund Rice—a touching tribute that symbolized hope, faith, and the enduring Edwardian spirit.
The evening’s cultural session featured a touching student introduction honoring Bishop Edward Kennelly and the Irish Christian Brothers, whose vision laid the foundation for this institution a century ago. A stage adaptation of Charles Dickens’ play “A Christmas Carol” and a dance performance titled “Lumen” captivated the audience. Both productions celebrate the triumph of light over darkness and the resilience of the human spirit. Students who excelled in the 10th-grade board examinations (2024-25) were also honored. In his address, Bishop Mascarenhas praised St. Edward’s for its centuries-old contributions to holistic education and moral formation and urged students to be torchbearers of truth, compassion, and service. The ceremony concluded with a proud tribute to the school’s enduring legacy—one that continues to enlighten hearts and minds with the light of knowledge and faith.
