Cuttack railway station mishap to be probed: Khurda Road ADRM

Cuttack: The Cuttack railway station mishap in which the platform roof shed collapsed and affected movement of trains earlier this afternoon will be investigated, informed Khurda Road Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) Pradeep Kumar Behera,

While speaking to the newsmen about the mishap, the Khurda Road ADRM said that a probe will be initiated under what circumstances the tragic mishap occurred.

“As part of the modernization works, an old building situated near the railway station was being demolished this afternoon by following all precautions and proper plans. The demolition resumed after the Vande Bharat Express passed through platform no 1. However, unfortunately some portions of the old building fell on the roof shed of platform no.1 leading to the collapse of the platform roof,” he said.

“Though no one was injured due to the mishap but the movement of trains on platform no 1 and 2 have been suspended while trains are passing thought other platforms,” he added.

On the other hand, the East Coast Railways (ECoR) Public Relations Officer (PRO) issued a clarification saying that during station redevelopment works at Cuttack Railway Station, some construction activity was being carried out with adequate safety precautions. Unfortunately, at 1545 hrs, an old wall collapsed onto the platform, temporarily hampering train movement on Platforms 1 & 2.

There has been no injury or casualty reported in this incident. Restoration work is already in progress, and the lines are expected to be cleared within 45 minutes, the PRO added.

Meanwhile, the rescue and restoration team cleared the track completely following which the movement of trains on platform no 1 and 2 resumed. Bhubaneswar-Balasore MEMU train was the first train to pass through the line.
