Bad road: Mother carrying child on her shoulder

Karnataka : An incident occurred on Thursday when a mother and her child had to be carried on shoulders and taken to the hospital for 1.5 kms on foot as the road leading to Naika’s residential complex in Adahallatti in the taluk was damaged.
Pregnant Shilpa Naika suffered labour pain on Thursday morning. Her family called an ambulance to take her to the hospital. However, the driver said that the ambulance would not be able to reach their home due to the bad road. Meanwhile, Shilpa gave birth to a baby boy at home. After the delivery, the family carried the mother and the child on their shoulders and travelled on foot. Both the mother and the child are now recovering at the Athani Government Hospital.
The villagers have expressed anger over the fact that the local gram panchayat has sanctioned funds for road improvement but the work has not been done yet.
PDO Siddappa Tungala said, “This road construction work was to be completed in March. It has been delayed due to unavoidable reasons.”
