Three govt functionaries convicted in Odisha vigilance cases

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance department achieved yet another success of conviction of three corrupt government functionaries in bribery and disproportionate assets (DA) cases on Friday.

As informed by the Vigilance department, Basanta Kumar Mishra, the former RI (now retired) and Sisir Kumar Behera, former Assistant Revenue Inspector (ARI), both of Sole Revenue Circle under Gurundia Tahasil of Sundargarh district have been convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh.

While Basanta Kumar Mishra has retired from services, Sisir Kumar Behera is currently appointed as the ARI of Rajgangpur Tahasil in Sundargarh district.

Following their conviction, the court sentenced each of them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of four years and to pay fine.

It is to be noted here that Basanta and Sisir were charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 PC Act, 1988/34 IPC for demanding and taking bribe from a complainant for issuance of income and caste certificate.

Soon after their conviction, both Basanta and Sisir were sent to jail custody to serve their sentence, informed the Odisha Vigilance adding that it will now move the competent authority for stoppage of their pensions and dismissal of Sisir Kumar Behera from his service.

In a similar development, Trilochan Sahu, the former Senior Clerk of Padampur Tahasil in Bargarh district (now retired) has been convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bargarh and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of two years and pay fine.

Sahu was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act, 1988 for possessing disproportionate assets (DA).

Odisha Vigilance has decided to move the competent authority and request for stoppage of pension of Trilochan Sahu following his conviction.
