Suspicious youth arrested with knife in Raipur

Raipur. Raipur. Under the crime control campaign being run in the capital Raipur, the Old Basti police station has got another big success. The police have arrested a suspicious youth roaming around with a sharp knife illegally. A sharp iron knife has been seized from the possession of the accused. A case has been registered against the accused under section 25 of the Arms Act and he has been sent to judicial custody. This action was carried out under the guidance of Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Lal Ummed Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police (West) Daulat Ram Porte, ASP (City) Lakhan Patle and City Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dewangan. A campaign is being run in the city for strict action against knifemen and illegal weapon holders, under which this action was taken.
According to the information received from the police, on August 4, 2025, the Old Basti police station received information from the informer that a young man is roaming with a knife in a suspicious condition near Kukripara, Maharajband pond. The age of the youth was stated to be around 20 to 25 years and he was wearing a white shirt. On receiving the information, the police team rushed to the spot. On reaching the spot, the youth tried to run away after seeing the police, but due to the promptness of the police, he was caught on the spot. On interrogation, the youth was identified as Anil Mahanand, son of Deepak Mahanand (age 25 years), resident of Veerbhadra Nagar, in front of Marwari crematorium, Police Station City Kotwali, Raipur, present address Mathpara Durga Chowk Police Station Tikrapara, Raipur.
During the search, the police recovered a sharp iron knife from his possession. When the license to keep the knife was asked from the accused, he could not show it. On this, a crime was registered against the accused in Police Station Purani Basti under Crime No. 310/2025, Section 25 Arms Act and he was duly arrested. After the arrest, the accused was produced in the court, from where he was sent to jail in judicial custody. Police say that the criminal record of the accused is being investigated and he is also being questioned as to why he was roaming around with a knife. This prompt action of the Purani Basti police station makes it clear that Raipur Police is fully active in maintaining law and order in the city and preventing criminal incidents. This campaign of the police will be intensified in the coming days so that the criminals remain afraid of the law.
