Delhi’s fuel ban for old vehicles rule makes a car owner sell his Rs 84 lakh Mercedes car in mere Rs 2.5 lakh

New Delhi: In a bid to curb rising air pollution, the Delhi government has enforced a ban on fuel sales to diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years. The rule has become effective from July 1, 2025.

The policy, aimed at reducing vehicular emissions, has left many vehicle owners grappling with the harsh reality of parting with their beloved cars.

Such an instance has been seen in Delhi. Reported as Varun Vij, a Delhi resident, recently sold his Rs 84 lakh Mercedes-Benz ML350 for a mere Rs 2.5 lakh. He has reportedly described the decision as “emotionally painful”. Vij’s story is not an isolated incident, as many owners are being forced to sell their vehicles at throwaway prices due to the ban.

The Delhi government’s move is expected to affect approximately 6.2 million vehicles, with owners facing penalties for violating the rule as reports suggest.
