Delhi girl on Odisha tour misbehaved by youths, expresses annoyance over police inaction

Jajpur: A girl from Delhi who is on a tour to Odisha along with her friend from Jajpur district was allegedly misbehaved by two youths in Dasarathapur area of the district last evening.

One Tapaswini Das of Taranga Sagarpur village under Dasarathapur Police station limits of the district is pursuing her studies in Delhi. Recently, she came to the village to attend the first death anniversary of her father. She was accompanied by one of her friends from Delhi, who wanted to visit Odisha, especially some iconic temples of the State.

As per their schedule, Tapaswini and her friend from Delhi visited Maa Biraja Temple Shakti Peeth in Jajpur yesterday. While returning home, Tapaswini, after alighting from the bus, called her brother to come and pick them up from the bustop as it was dark and they felt unsafe to walk to the house alone.

Soon, Tapaswini’s brother along with two others went on a bike to pick them up. However, as there were five people, Tapaswini and her friend decided to walk while her brother and his friends, who were on the bike, showed them the bike light.

However, on their way to the house, two youths, namely Anil Jena and Nitesh Jena allegedly started to misbehave with Tapaswini and her friend. When Tapaswini’s brother and his two friends protested, Anil and Nitesh thrashed them and continued to misbehave with her and friend from Delhi. The accused allegedly used slangs, pulled their dresses and attempted to touch them inappropriately.

Luckily, they managed to escape and run to the house. Later, they filed a complaint at the Dasarathapur Police station against Anil and Nitesh and demanded action against them.

Based on the complaint police have stated an investigation into the matter, however, they are still clueless about the accused person.

Meanwhile, Tapaswini’s friend expressed her annoyance over police inaction. “The miscreants were possibly under the influence of alcohol. Initially, they shouted at us and passed lewd comments. When Tapaswini’s brother and two others protested, they beat them and pulled our T-shirts and touch us. Even though we filed a complaint last night and even identified the accused persons by their names, but police have not taken any action against the accused till this morning. If it were Delhi, the accused would have been arrested immediately,” she said while speaking to the media persons.

“Stricter action has to be taken against such people so that people do not face the same problem when visit Odisha. It is not good that people coming to Odisha on visit are misbehaved,” she added.
