Financial problems of universities must be resolved: Edappadi Palaniswami

Tamil Nadu : AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has stressed that the problem of financial shortage in universities must be resolved. Edappadi K. Palaniswami: Due to delay in appointment of Vice Chancellors, the posts of Vice Chancellors are lying vacant for about 6 months to 2 years in more than 10 universities including Anna, Annamalai, Chennai, Madurai Kamaraj, Bharathiar and Bharathidasan. Madurai Kamaraj University has not paid salaries and pensions to professors, staff and pensioners for two years due to financial shortage and salary related issues. Complaints of irregularities in appointment of teachers and salary related issues have surfaced in Thanjavur Tamil University and Annamalai University. Teachers have not received salary for more than 6 months in many places including the Centre for Women’s Studies. Currently there are reports that professors and staff of Chennai University are protesting that they have not been paid last month’s salary. These problems must be resolved. TTV Dhinakaran (AMMK): The government should immediately release the required funds to all universities facing financial difficulties, including Madras University.
