Man gives girlfriend Rs 30 crore lottery winnings, she flees with new lover

A Canadian man, Lawrence Campbell, is suing his former girlfriend, Krystal Ann McKay, accusing her of swiping his $5 million lottery jackpot and eloping with her lover. Campbell says he bought the winning ticket in 2024 but couldn’t redeem it himself because he did not have proper ID. He relied on McKay, with whom he had been dating more than a year and a half, to bring home the prize after receiving what lottery officials termed “advice” to do so.

The two had been cohabiting and had a “committed, loyal and promising romantic relationship,” Campbell explained to CTV News. He even went so far as to let McKay have the winnings deposited into her name because he didn’t have a bank account. Everything appeared to be okay at first, with the two taping a video confirming the win at a Shoppers Drug Mart and taking publicity shots with an oversized cheque. As stated by Campbell, the victory was officially termed a birthday present from him to McKay.

Though, in a matter of days, McKay supposedly vanished, not responding to Campbell in any way. When he finally found her, she was in bed with some other fellow, according to the lawsuit. All of the accusations have been denied by McKay’s attorney, as reported by CTV News. Campbell’s attorney stated, “She ghosted him, wouldn’t answer his calls or respond to his messages, she blocked him on her social media; and even took out a protection order.”

Campbell’s action, launched in Manitoba’s Court of King’s Bench, also sues the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) and Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries, alleging they had given bad advice and had failed to alert him to the dangers of having a third party collect a lottery prize for him. His attorney said, “This case is about systemic karma versus the system. A situation created, or at least enabled, by the state-owned lottery corporations handling claims in Manitoba.” Campbell says he completely trusted McKay, but that trust appears to have been misplaced.
