US Senate to vote on California plan this week

Business Business: US Senate to vote this week on California’s plan to end sales of gasoline vehicles by 2035 The US Senate will vote this week on California’s landmark plan, which proposes to end sales of gasoline-powered vehicles by 2035. The plan has also been adopted by 11 other states. The US House passed a law on May 1 that proposes to revoke the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) special authority to allow California to sell at least 80% electric vehicles by 2035.

Big automakers, such as General Motors, Toyota, and Hyundai, have expressed concern over implementing the move, saying the rules are not practical.

California says the move is necessary to reduce pollution, while opponents consider it wrong and illegal. California has said that 68% of new vehicle sales should be electric by 2030.
