Despite the ban, meat is being sold openly in old Bhopal

Madhya Pradesh : Despite an official ban on the open sale of meat and eggs to the public, meat and mutton are still being sold openly in many parts of old Bhopal, including Islampura, Noor Mahal Road, Budhwara and adjoining areas. In December 2023, soon after taking office, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced a statewide ban on the open display and sale of meat and eggs. Following the order, the district administration and the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) launched enforcement drives to ensure compliance. In response, many traders temporarily installed opaque glass panels on their outlets to hide the display of meat. However, months later, a ground reality check reveals that the practice of open sale has resumed in many areas. Traders argue that they have no other option due to the lack of dedicated enclosed structures – covered meat markets – for the meat trade in areas such as Qazi Camp, Noor Mahal Road, BHEL and others.
