Diphu in Assam and Williamnagar in Meghalaya get AIR FM Channel

TURA: The All India Radio (AIR) station in Williamnagar of East Garo Hills district of Meghalaya and AIR Diphu are among the 91 locations to receive 100W FM transmitters. This makes these two towns among the few locations in the states to receive FM services. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the services for the transmitter virtually on Friday. An event was organised in Williamnagar to mark the inauguration of the FM services. Hosted in the AIR station complex, this event was attended by the Chief Minister of Meghalaya among many other prominent personalities of the region. Conrad Sangma tweeted,” Attended the virtual inauguration of 91 FM transmitters of All India Radio FM by Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi ji. This is a major leap in radio connectivity in the country covering an additional 2 Crore people in 18 States & 2 UTs. Privileged that Meghalaya is one of the states covered through this launch. Congratulations & best wishes to AIR FM team! ” According to reports, the transmitter will be operating on 100.1 MHz frequency on the FM channel. The 100 W transmitter is expected to cater to people within a 400 square kilometre area covering thousands of listeners across the town of Williamnagar as well as the nearby stories. The channel is expected to air a variety of programs towards both entertainment as well as education for the people of the region. The long cherished dream of Diphu was also realised on April 28 when the PM of India inaugurated 91 100W FM Transmitters across the country from his residence. An event to celebrate this occasion is being organized on the premises of AIR Diphu. This is the 1st FM transmitter of Karbi Anglong Hills area. Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Tuliram Ronghang, was likely to be physically present at AIR Diphu site during the inauguration. Horen Sing Bey, Member of Parliament was also expected to be there along with several other dignitaries. There was enthusiasm among the youth of Karbi Anglong who will enjoy FM quality Radio transmission from AIR Diphu.
