GM recalls 721,000 SUVs and trucks over engine problems

World World: General Motors announced Tuesday that it is recalling 721,000 SUVs and trucks worldwide because these vehicles may have an engine problem that can lead to a loss of power and increase the risk of a crash. The recall applies to vehicles such as Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon and Yukon XL from 2021 to 2024 models with a 6.2L V8 gas engine.

GM says these vehicles may have manufacturing defects in connecting rod and crankshaft engine components that could damage or fail the engine. The recall covers about 600,000 vehicles in the US. The company cited 12 accidents and 12 injuries that may be related to this problem.

Dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and repair or replace the engine if necessary. Vehicles that pass the inspection will be provided with higher quality oil and a new oil fill cap, as well as having the oil filter replaced.
