Punjab: One person arrested for ‘murder’ of combine harvester driver

ABHOHAR: Khuiyan Sarwar police and CIA staff have arrested a man for allegedly killing combine harvester driver Gurpreet Singh Kala (28) in Panjawa village of Abohar. His two other accomplices are yet to be traced. A case has been registered against Jagmeet Singh, Pawandeep Singh and Surjit Singh besides some unidentified persons. Surjit has been arrested.

‘Violation’ of rules in state animal welfare board

ABHOHAR: Animal rights activist and National Animal Welfare Board member Rajendra Shah in a letter to CM Bhagwant Singh Mann has drawn his attention to the alleged non-compliance of rules in reconstitution of state animal welfare board and Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). He said that as per rules, the members of animal bodies to be nominated should be representatives of animal welfare organisations (AWOs) recognised by the Animal Welfare Board of India. However, the nominations in Punjab were against the principles of collaborative governance and expertise-based decision-making.

7-year-old girl injured after being hit by car
Abohar: A seven-year-old girl from a road construction labourer’s family was hit by a car near Alamgarh village on Sunday. She was rushed to a government hospital from where she was referred to Faridkot. A team from Sadar police station is investigating the case. The girl has sustained deep injuries on her head.
Youth arrested for ‘drug consumption’
Muktsar: On Saturday, the Lambi police arrested a resident of Dhani Teliwanwali after an empty bag containing the remains of poppy husk was allegedly recovered from him. The accused, identified as Mandeep Singh, has been booked under the NDPS Act.
