Indian national caught at Zambia airport with gold and cash worth Rs 21 crores

New Delhi: A 27-year-old Indian national was caught at Zambia airport on Saturday. he was allegedly trying to smuggle a substantial amount of cash and gold through Lusaka’s Kenneth Kaunda International airport.
The man was going to Dubai when he was stopped by a special multi-agency task force. According to Drug enforcement Commission (DEC), officials found him carrying Rs 17.07 crore in US currency and seven gold pieces worth $500,000.
DEC caught Indian national during the routine security check when the man’s luggage immediately raised suspicions.
Images shared by Zambian media showed stacks of $100 bills together in rubber bands. The money was packed in a black bag. The bag was placed inside a larger polypropylene suitcase.
DEC released a statement saying, “Investigations into the matter are ongoing, and those involved in trans-national organised crimes, the long arm of the law will catch up with them soon.”
