Punjab: The court of Additional Sessions Judge Surinder Pal Kaur has rejected the anticipatory bail plea of a police officer accused in the attack on Colonel Pushpinder Singh Baath case. The applicant, Inspector Ronny Singh, claimed that he has been falsely implicated in the case. Following the court’s direction, the investigating officer of Chandigarh Police appeared before the judge today and presented the details of the investigation conducted so far. Colonel Baath’s lawyer Harinderpal Singh Verma said that the court after deliberations rejected the anticipatory bail plea of the accused inspector. Earlier, Ronny Singh had filed a bail plea in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He had claimed that he, along with the police team, had conducted a raid near Rajindra Hospital in Patiala after receiving intelligence about a wanted drug smuggler.

The petitioner had alleged, “During this operation, they encountered persons consuming alcohol in public and obstructing their access to the hospital. On being politely asked to clear the way, these persons, including Colonel Pushpinder Baath and his son, reacted in an aggressive manner, attacked the petitioner and created a public nuisance.” He further said that the incident was captured on CCTV and eyewitnesses had confirmed it. The attack on Col Pushpinder Singh Baath and his son took place on the intervening night of March 13 and 14 near the Government Rajindra Hospital. The incident reportedly stemmed from a parking dispute at a roadside eatery. Col Baath and his son sustained injuries.
