Jalandhar: After the blast, the main accused roamed around freely at the railway station for two hours

Punjab: According to police sources, the prime accused in the grenade attack on BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia’s residence used a stolen phone and roamed around freely at Jalandhar railway station for nearly two hours after the incident in the wee hours of April 8. The source said police have identified the accused from CCTV footage, while investigation is on to find out about his other identities. The source said the cellphone used by the accused belonged to Shadir, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, identified as a resident of Solian village in Badaun district. The UP resident had lodged an FIR after losing his phone, ruling out his involvement in the case, the source said.
The accused had made a UPI transaction of Rs 3,500 to the e-rickshaw driver’s cousin, who was arrested by police along with the driver for facilitating the transfer and providing him cash after withdrawing the amount from an ATM. The accused was identified from CCTV footage of platform number 2 of Jalandhar City railway station, where he spent nearly two hours after the blast. The source said that at the time of committing the crime, the accused was wearing a black shirt, black trousers and a cap, later he removed the cap. A video had surfaced in which he was seen wearing a light purple shirt and white trousers near the Domoria overbridge. He was carrying clothes in his bag, which can be seen in the footage of the incident. The accused may have also thrown away his bag before coming to the railway station, the source said. An investigating officer said, “Our teams are searching for the accused somewhere near UP. We cannot give any more information.” Special DGP Arpit Shukla said, “We will definitely share all the details once we are able to arrest the main accused.”
