Telangana: Government doctor who referred cases to private hospital dismissed from service

Sangareddy: District Collector Valluru Kranti has directed District Medical and Health Officer Dr Gayatri Devi to dismiss Dr Uzma Naz, a gynaecologist employed at Zaheerabad Regional Hospital, for referring pregnant women to private hospitals. The collector ordered an inquiry following several complaints against Dr Naz, in which the committee found the allegations to be true. Following this, Kranti ordered the DMHO to dismiss Dr Naz from service immediately. He also asked the DMHO to issue notices to two doctors employed at Daulatabad and Malchelma Primary Health Centres for negligence in duty.

During a meeting with health department officials in Sangareddy on Wednesday, the collector said that the maternal and infant mortality rate in the district has come down by 50 per cent this year as compared to last year. Kranti asked doctors of regional hospitals to handle low-risk pregnancy cases at the regional hospital level itself and refer high-risk cases to district hospitals after consulting district hospital doctors. Kranti suggested ASHA workers and ANMs to constantly monitor pregnant women in their respective areas and give them constant guidance. Superintendent of Government General Hospital Dr. Anil Kumar and others were present on the occasion.
