Engineering student dies after drowning in pond in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: In an unfortunate incident, a Plus Two Engineering student died reportedly after drowning at a pond in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Sunday.

Sources informed that one Preetiprabhu Patnaik of Keonjhar was doing his Deploma Engineering at Dhenkanal’s Gobindapur-based private college.

Today, Patnaik went to the nearby pond to take bath as there was no water in the hostel of the college, said sources adding that he, however, drowned after slipping into the deep water while taking bath in the pond.

Soon, some villagers who were present on the spot, rescued Patnaik from the depth of the pond in a critical condition and rushed him to the Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the doctor who attended Patnaik declared him brought dead and sent his body for postmortem.

Meanwhile, the college authorities informed about the Engineering student’s death to his family members, following which they started their journey to Dhenkanal hospital from Keonjhar.

The postmortem of the student will be done only after the arrival of his parents and later the body will be handed over to them when the autopsy is completed, informed sources.

Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended on the locality and the college following the unfortunate and untimely death of the engineering student, added the sources.
