Punjab: 2 more cases registered against travel agents

Punjab: The Punjab Police Special Investigation Team, formed to probe human trafficking, has registered two more cases against immigration agents. So far, the police have registered 10 cases in this regard. The police had constituted a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) on February 7. Just two days ago, a US military aircraft carrying 104 deportees, including 30 state residents, landed at Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport in Amritsar. The recently registered FIR accuses the accused of duping people by making false promises of facilitating illegal entry into the US.

The persons booked have been identified as Jaskaran Singh, Mahinder Singh, Hardev Kaur, Sujan Singh and Happy, residents of Tanda in Hoshiarpur. Agent Gill hails from Tarn Taran. Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav has urged all citizens to provide any information that could help in arresting such travel agents. “Public cooperation is essential in eliminating these fraudulent networks,” he said. Additional Director General of Police (NRI Affairs) Praveen Sinha said they are working closely with district police chiefs to dismantle the network promoting illegal migration. Last year, the police had registered cases against 43 travel agencies for illegally advertising jobs abroad on social media without any required license.
