Wayanad: A 27-year-old man was killed in a suspected wild elephant attack in this hill district, police said on Wednesday. The incident was reported from a tribal hamlet in Attamala, which falls under the Meppadi police station limits, they said. The victim was identified as Balakrishnan, a member of the tribal community, police said. The incident was reported on Tuesday night and his body was found on Wednesday, they said.
Police and forest department officials have rushed to the area. The incident comes a day after a 45-year-old man was killed in a wild elephant attack in a forest fringe area of Noolpuzha village on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border in this district. Following the incident, locals staged a protest on Tuesday and alleged that they were unable to venture out of their homes due to the threat of frequent attacks by wild animals, including elephants.
