Himachal: Two people died, one injured in a car accident

Himachal Pradesh: Two persons, a man and a woman, were killed when a car skidded off the road and fell into a 300-metre deep gorge in Churah subdivision of Chamba district. The accident took place on Jasourgarh-Chamba road. The deceased have been identified as 32-year-old Roopa Devi and 53-year-old Bhuri Singh, both residents of Kuthed village. Seriously injured 45-year-old Prem Lata has been admitted to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College, Chamba. Eyewitness taxi driver Purushottam Lal told police that he was returning after dropping passengers from Bagga when he saw a car coming ahead of him.

The vehicle suddenly went out of control and fell into the gorge. One of the passengers, Prem Lata, fell out of the vehicle and fell a little below the road. The taxi driver raised an alarm following which villagers rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. However, both Bhuri Singh and Roopa Devi had died. After much effort, villagers pulled out the bodies and brought them to the road. The injured was rushed to Jasaurgarh Health Centre, from where he was referred to a higher health institution after first aid. The report states that the accident site did not have necessary safety measures like parapets or crash barriers. If these protective structures were there, the car could have been saved from falling into the deep ditch.
