1 dead and 24 injured as pick-up van overturns in Athagarh of Cuttack district

Athagarh: In a tragic incident, as many as 1 person died and 24 people were injured 4 of them critically after a pick-up van overturned to the roadside. The pick-up van was carrying 23 students to the Saranda ground for Republic Day Parade.

According to information, the accident happened near Khandak bridge in the Anshupa road under Subarnapur out post. The pupils 24 in number were students of North Banki Mala Biharpur Government School in Athagarh. The students were studying in Class 10.

The driver and three other students were critically injured in the accident. The accident occurred as the front wheel of the pick-up van was loose.

Two of the critically injured were rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital (MCH). They are undergoing treatment in the trauma ward of SCB MCH.

Cuttack District Collector Dattatreya Bhau Sahab has announced ex-gratia of Rs 25,000 from the Red Cross funds for the family of the deceased child.
