Hyderabad: Clash between Youth Congress groups at Gandhi Bhavan
Hyderabad: Two factions of the Youth Congress from Bhadradri-Kothagudem district clashed at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, January 22, while a meeting of newly elected Youth Congress presidents of all districts was underway at Indira Bhavan. The issue was between original Youth Congress leaders and those who joined Congress from BRS. In the recently held Youth Congress elections, Karthik, who joined Congress from BRS, won the election for the post of district president. Another group led by Sudheer, who is the district secretary of Youth Congress and an original Congress leader, is alleging that Karthik is ineligible to contest for the post.
Since the matter was not getting resolved at the district level, Sudheer’s group thought they could raise the issue during the meeting at Indira Bhavan on Wednesday. The group alleged with documents that Karthik was overage when he contested for the post of president. Sudheer’s group also alleged that posts in the organisation are being given only to those who have come from other parties like BRS. What started with arguments and sloganeering soon turned into a heated exchange, scuffles and a brawl. Sudhir’s group was thrown out of the meeting and when the group reached the parking lot of Gandhi Bhawan, they were attacked by Karthik’s group. Several Youth Congress workers belonging to Karthik’s group attacked a Youth Congress leader. Before the situation went out of control, the policemen present there dispersed the crowd. Sudhir’s group vowed to bring the issue to the notice of the Congress party high command in Delhi.
