Critically injured girl rescue from Bargarh Forest: ‘Altercation’ led to ‘sudden provocation’ for crime: SP

Bargarh: In the most discussed incident of a girl getting rescued from forest in a critical condition in Bargarh of Odisha, the Superintendent of Police said that ‘altercation’ led to ‘sudden provocation’ for which the main accused attacked the girl with a stone.

In a press briefing Bargarh SP Prahlad Sahai Meena informed about how the crime took place. Reportedly, earlier it was rumoured that the victim and the main accused were in a relationship for the last 3 years. However, asking about this, the SP said that since the case is under investigation at this point of time he can’t answer this query.

It is to be noted that a critically injured girl was rescued from the Kurla forest area on January 14. She is under treatment now at the Burla Medical College and Hospital in Sambalpur district.

It has been learnt that for some reason a verbal spat erupted between the main accused and the victim on that day. Being provoked by this the youth attacked the girl with the help of a stone in a case of attempt to murder.

Meanwhile, the victim is slowly recovering while her statement is yet to be officially recorded.

It has been rumoured that the victim girl and the accused had a 3-year love affair. The love affair was established on Instagram and Facebook. The young woman had come to watch the Dhanu Yatra on the 12th and did not return home.

On 14th January, the girl was rescued from the Kurla forest in the Sadar block of Bargarh.

As per medical reports the victim girl was not raped.

Yesterday, Bargarh police arrested the main accused identified as Rakesh Dansena from Titilagarh when he was trying to flee to some other State.

Today, Bargarh police have recreated the scene of the incident with the main accused Rakesh Dansena in Kurla forest along with the accused’s village Putka in Bijepur Block.

Earlier, Bargarh police had arrested four others in this case. The police have seized three mobile phones, the stone used for the attack and blood stained shirts.

Bargarh SP Prahlad Sahai Meena avoided answering the questions of the journalists at the press conference. Regarding the incident, the SP only said that the attack was based on a verbal argument between the accused and the victim.
