Rayagada: Elderly woman attacked with sharp knife on suspicion of performing witch craft

Rayagada: This incident happened in Mankadajhola village of Rayagada town police limits in Rayagada district. She was rushed to District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in a critical condition.

The woman was identified as Khalimani. The 70-year-old woman was attacked by a knife in the right side of her stomach.

According to information, on Saturday night around 10.00 am two villagers namely Balu Jhodia and Beju Jani called the woman out of her house. She was then beaten up by the two. Further they used a sharp knife and stabbed her. They dumped her body in the nearby the pond.

Some people noticed her lying conscious near the pond and rescued her. It is to be noted that, from the past few days, the daughter-in-law and grandson of Balu Jhodia were unwell and died of sickness. Suspecting that Kalimani must have performed witch craft on them and killed them, Balu attacked her with a knife. After that he fled the scene.
