Phagwara: After the woman’s suicide, her lover also committed suicide

Punjab: A 33-year-old married woman allegedly committed suicide in Mandhali village near Phagwara. The next day her lover also hanged himself in a hotel room. According to officials, Richa Bhardwaj hanged herself in her house on January 10. The deceased’s brother Kapil told police that his sister was married to Delhi resident Raghav and has an 11-year-old son. But later she came in contact with Sunil Kumar alias Sunny of Mandhali village and the two were living in a live-in relationship for the last five years.

However, their relationship turned sour due to frequent arguments and allegations of misbehavior. After Richa’s death, Sunny also hanged himself in a hotel room located on Banga-Mukerian Road. Hotel staff found Sunny’s body on January 11 when they noticed that his mobile phone was switched off. Police investigations revealed that Sunny had persuaded Richa to leave her marital home five years ago and brought her and her son to Mandali village. Despite buying a house together, their relationship remained conflict-ridden.
