Fake notes seized in WB: Major fraud case exposed in Malda
West Bengal: Police of Vaishnavnagar police station conducted a raid based on a tip-off and arrested a smuggler with fake notes worth Rs 20 lakh. Police of the concerned station conducted a raid in Kumbhira area on the India-Bangladesh border late Tuesday night. Police arrested the smuggler with a huge amount of fake notes from a house in the area. Fake notes worth Rs 19 lakh, fake notes of Rs one lakh and fake notes of Rs 200 were recovered from the arrested person. Police also suspect that the accused smugglers may have collected these fake notes from across the border. On Wednesday, the investigating police officials produced the arrested person in Malda court for police custody.
According to police sources, the arrested person’s name is Rubel Sheikh. His house is in Kumbhira area. Kumbhira village is located just five kilometers away from the fencing dispute between Border Guard of Bangladesh BGB and BSF at Sukdevpur of Bakhrabad Gram Panchayat of Vaishnavnagar police station on the India-Bangladesh border. Rubel Sheikh was arrested from his house in that village. The arrested smuggler had kept fake notes worth Rs 20 lakh in his house. Rubel Sheikh might have planned to smuggle them to other states. But after receiving information from a secret source, the police of Vaishnavnagar police station raided and arrested the smuggler red-handed with fake notes from his house.
The police said that such a large amount of fake notes has not been recovered in Vaishnavnagar in the last few years. The police also said that the fake notes of Rs 500 and Rs 200 are of very high quality. However, the investigating police officers are not ruling out the possibility that these have been collected from across the border.
The police of Vaishnavnagar police station said that Rubel Sheikh is behind this incident. It is possible that the fake notes were sent out of the country through courier. But the police have foiled that plan. The police have also started investigating from where these fake notes were collected and where they were planned to be smuggled.
