Jalandhar: 2 members of extortion gang arrested
Jalandhar: In a major breakthrough, Jalandhar Rural Police has arrested two members of an inter-district extortion gang. The Nakodar police team recovered a pistol, ammunition, a mobile phone with a SIM card, a car and a motorcycle from the accused. The arrested accused have been identified as Gursewak Singh resident of village Chak Bahmania and Sunil Kumar resident of Karol Bagh, Kot Ramdas, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar, who are currently living in village Saidpur. SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, while talking to the media, said that these arrests were part of a special drive against extortionists, robbers and other anti-social groups.
SP, Investigation, Jasroop Kaur and DSP, Nakodar Sukhpal Singh oversaw the operation, while Incharge, CIA Staff, Inspector Pushp Bali and Inspector Aman Saini, SHO, City Nakodar Police Station led the police squad. On December 2, an extortion attempt was reported targeting a doctor in Nakodar. Taking prompt action, a case was registered and within 24 hours the accused were arrested from near Saidpur Jhari village in Shahkot.Preliminary investigation reveals that the accused were involved in several extortion schemes and might have links with other criminal activities as well. Efforts are being made to identify their links. The arrested accused will be produced in a local court today and their remand will be sought for further investigation. SSP Khakh announced zero tolerance approach against extortion. Jalandhar Rural Police is determined to take strict action against extortion and other crimes endangering public peace and safety.
