Fire Force and locals rescue cub that fell into a well in Kuttampuza
Kerala: Forest department officials and locals rescued a cub that fell into a well at Kuttampuza Pinnavoorkudy hill village on Monday night. Three-year-old Kuttiyana fell into the well at Nirmala Rajan’s rubber plantation near Kodakappala temple at around 8.30 pm on Monday. Kuttiyana had come with a herd of elephants. On information from the locals, Valara section forest officer CK Ajayan, EJ Joseph and Kothamangalam fire force rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation.
After hours of struggle, the baby elephant reached the shore at 11 pm. The baby had kicked a portion of the well by raising its trunk. The firemen lowered the remaining portion with a wire. A rope was also thrown. Finally, the baby elephant ran away crying into the forest with a herd of elephants standing nearby.
Assistant station officer of Kothamangalam Agni Raksha Nilayam M Anil Kumar, senior fire officer PM Rasheed, fire officer O. A Abid, OG Ragesh Kumar, Athanas, Sreejith and Home Guard KU Sudheesh participated in the mission.
