Telangana: BRS’s Maha Dharna in Mahbubabad on Monday

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is set to hold a Maha Dharna in Mahabubabad on Monday. The protest aims to highlight the Congress government’s oppression of tribal, Dalit and poor farmers, in the backdrop of police brutality against the residents of Lagacherla village in Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s Kodangal assembly constituency.

The BRS leadership, opposing the State government’s land acquisition policies, particularly for private pharma companies, has called for solidarity with tribal and Dalit farmers. The protest seeks to demand justice for the affected villagers and address broader issues of government negligence and police brutality.Initially planned for November 21, the protest was denied permission by the police.

In response, Yella Muralidhar Reddy, the youth president of the BRS in Mahabubabad, moved the court seeking its intervention. He argued that the Vikarabad police had brutally attacked the villagers of Lagacherla, including women, children, and members of the Scheduled Castes and Tribes.

The Telangana High Court directed the Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Mahabubabad to grant permission for the BRS to hold a peaceful protest. The court acknowledged the petitioners’ rights and granted conditional permission for the demonstration. The number of participants in the dharna is limited to 1,000 people.

The protest is allowed to take place from 11 am to 2 pm at the Dharna Chowk in Mahabubabad. BRS working president KT Rama Rao will lead the protest, standing in solidarity with the affected communities. He emphasized the importance of this protest, drawing parallels to the pre-statehood days and urging the people to teach a lesson to the national parties, BJP and Congress.

Other prominent BRS leaders, including B Shankar Naik, Maloth Kavitha, Redya Naik, and Satyavathi Rathod, will also participate in the Maha Dharna. They appealed to the party workers and loyalists to ensure the protest remained peaceful.
