Couple was cheating youngsters, many fake IDs found during arrest
Haryana. A case of cyber fraud of Rs 25 lakh has come to light in Yamunanagar. Here a husband and wife together made fake IDs and befriended youngsters on social media and cheated them of lakhs of rupees. The matter came to light when a young man came to know that the ‘dream girl’ Shivani, with whom he was talking, had died. This information made him suspicious and he lodged a complaint with the police.
The accused husband and wife had created many fake IDs on the social media app Vigo, one of which was a profile named ‘Shivani’, in which she was described as a resident of America. Seeing the profile of ‘Shivani’, the victim started talking. The accused woman gradually won the trust of the young man and then started demanding money from him on the pretext of illness. After giving lakhs of rupees, the young man received a message informing him about the death of ‘Shivani’. It was also told that she has also added the name of the victim in her will. The youth found something suspicious in this and he complained to the Yamunanagar cyber police. After a thorough investigation of the case, the cyber police arrested both the accused.
Giving information, Cyber Thana Yamunanagar SHO Ravi Kant said that both the accused have been produced in the court and taken on three-day remand so that more cases of fraud can be detected by interrogating them. Police said that the accused husband and wife have made many youths their victims by using various fake IDs. However, the police is also preparing to attach the property acquired through fraud to the case.
