Kanpur businessman, wife and maid died in a house fire on Diwali
Kanpur: A businessman, his wife and their domestic help died of alleged suffocation in their house in the wee hours of Thursday, police said. The fire broke out in the wooden temple of the house located in Pandu Nagar under Kakadev police station area around 3 am. A senior official said that the family performed Diwali rituals late in the night, after which the diya kept burning in the temple. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Kanpur) Dinesh Tripathi said, “At the time of the incident, businessman Sanjay Shyam Dasani, his wife (Kanika Dasani) and maid (Chhabi Chauhan) were sleeping in the house. They could not escape.” Tripathi said, “When the local authorities and fire brigade were informed, they reached the spot and all three were taken to Regency Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.” He said that the fire in the house has been extinguished by the fire brigade. The DCP said that further legal action is being taken in the matter.
