Computer teachers took out a protest march in Barnala

Punjab: The relay hunger strike of agitating computer teachers outside the District Administrative Complex (DC Office Complex) entered the 54th day today. The teachers said that their demands include transfer of computer teachers from Punjab Information and Communication Technology Education Society (PICTES) to Punjab Education Department. They said that they have been working in government schools in the state for 19 years. As the state government is not listening to their voice, the computer teachers, as part of an action plan, have started opposing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the by-elections to be held in four assembly constituencies – Barnala, Gidderbaha, Dera Baba Nanak and Chabbewal – to urge the state government to accept their demands.

As part of their action plan, a large number of computer teachers on Wednesday evening took out a protest march from the railway station to the residence of Sangrur MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer in Barnala. They also raised slogans against the AAP-led state government. On October 25, they will hold a rally in Chabbewal (Hoshiarpur) and take out a protest march. The teachers said that despite promises made by ministers and other AAP leaders, the state government has not yet fulfilled their demands. They said that computer teachers have also not been given the benefit of the Sixth Pay Commission like other state government employees. They said that if their demands are not met soon, they will launch a massive agitation.
