Himachal: Land relief distribution started for airport project

Himachal Pradesh: Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said yesterday that the state government has started disbursing compensation for the expansion of Kangra airport, fulfilling his government’s first budget announcement. “The process of disbursing compensation will begin with the disbursement of compensation amount to the land owners of Jugehar village in Shahpur area of ​​Kangra district. A total of Rs 32.50 crore will be disbursed to the land owners of Jugehar. In course of time, Rs 3,500 crore (approx) will be provided to the land owners for the expansion of Kangra airport along with compensation for rehabilitation and resettlement.”

Sukhu said the land owners of Jugehar village have welcomed the state government’s move to disburse the compensation amount as it was their long-pending demand. “The expansion of Kangra airport was a priority of the present state government to boost the tourism sector in the region,” he said. The Chief Minister said the expansion of the airport is expected to give a major boost to the tourism industry and will give a boost to the government’s dream of making Kangra district the tourism capital of the state. “Under the proposed expansion of the Kangra airport, the length of the runway will be increased from 1,376 metres to 3,010 metres, which will enable operation of A320 type aircraft,” he said. The Chief Minister said the expansion of the Kangra airport would open new doors of employment and self-employment, leading to economic prosperity for the people of Kangra district.
